Our Journey
Connecting Artists and Producers
Whilst studying music production at university in Leeds, our founder Joe saw a problem.
The internet was full of independent artists sharing their songs and hoping to be heard — but with no real way to reach the producers who could help them make proper records. And producers like Joe had no easy way to find them.
So Joe started producing for these artists himself, from his dorm room — making music with them remotely, something almost no one was doing back then. As demand grew beyond what he could handle alone, he brought in other producers from the same university building, and it took off fast.
Before long, dozens of artists were working with them — and MyFirstSingle was born.
Expanding the Vision
As demand kept growing, Joe knew it had to be more than a student project.
He brought in experienced producers and professional studios, raised the quality across the board, and expanded into full production, promotion and release strategy.
MyFirstSingle became The Online Recording Studio — TORS — and Joe left university to build it full time.
Ahead of the curve
TORS went global, hand-picking producers across the US, Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia, and working with hundreds of artists across dozens of genres.
Then the world caught up: when the pandemic forced the music industry to go remote overnight, TORS had been working that way for years — ready while everyone else scrambled to adapt.
Impact and Visibility
Relocating to West London, TORS continued to grow rapidly, becoming one of the leading online recording platforms for aspiring artists globally. Thousands of tracks were produced, achieving tens of millions of streams, chart successes, and major TV and film placements.
Media features included Sky News, Metro, IQ, and LadBible, with sessions in iconic studios such as Abbey Road, and in New York, Paris, and LA.
Built for independence
Today, TORS supports thousands of artists from around the world to produce, distribute, promote, and monetize their music.
When Joe started TORS, artists would say they wanted to work with us so that they could get signed to a label. Nowadays, artists say they want to work with us so don’t have to get signed and can remain independent forever.
The Road Ahead
Big things often start small — a first demo, an artist no one’s heard yet, a university dorm room.
When Joe started there, almost no one was making music with artists online.
Now it’s a crowded industry, full of inflated promises and people happy to take an artist’s money.
But our mission hasn’t changed: to be the team artists can trust, and to help them grow on their own terms — with full ownership, control, and the freedom to build a real career.
